Welcome

Welcome to the Walmart Locator website. Please note this website is not affiliated with Walmart but is owned and operated by Roundabout Publications. We publish a book called Walmart Locator, a directory of Walmart stores in the United States sold at Amazon and other online retailers.

The current edition of the book includes overnight parking information and identifies about a thousand stores where overnight RV parking may not be allowed. Whether you’re a blacktop boondocker or regular shopper, the Walmart Locator book can help you find stores across the United States.

If you have questions about our website or book, please contact us.

RV Parking at Walmart

The frequently asked question below is from the Walmart Corporate website regarding RV parking at Walmart stores.

Question
Can I park my RV at a Walmart store?

Answer
While we do not offer electrical service or accommodations typically necessary for RV customers, Walmart values RV travelers and considers them among our best customers. Consequently, we do permit RV parking on our store lots as we are able. Permission to park is extended by individual store managers, based on availability of parking space and local laws. Please contact management in each store to ensure accommodations before parking your RV.

Overnight RV Parking Etiquette

Some of the most respected RV consumer clubs have joined together to support your right to park on private businesses’ parking lots overnight under the following code of conduct. The code pertains to establishments that permit “dry camping” on their lots. Dry camping means camping without the use of external hookups for electricity, water supply or waste disposal.

Industry-Sanctioned Code of Conduct
(RVers’ Good Neighbor Policy)

  1. Stay one night only!
  2. Obtain permission from a qualified individual.
  3. Obey posted regulations.
  4. No awnings, chairs, or barbecue grills outside your RV.
  5. Do not use hydraulic jacks on soft surfaces (including asphalt).
  6. Always leave an area cleaner than you found it.
  7. Purchase gas, food, or supplies as a form of thank you, when feasible.
  8. Be safe! Always be aware of your surroundings and leave if you feel unsafe.

If your plans include touring the area, staying for more than one night, or necessitate conduct not within the code, please relocate to a local campground. It’s the right thing to do!

Most of the complaints lodged regarding RV parking on business parking lots have to do with aesthetics and perceived abuse of the privilege. There are a variety of competing interests that were balanced to arrive at this industry-sanctioned code of conduct. As you can see, this Code of Conduct is nothing more than an RVers’ “Good Neighbor” policy.

Not following the code has serious consequences and is detrimental to the rights of all RVers. Already, some municipalities have passed ordinances to prohibit parking on private business property overnight.

This code of conduct is only provided as a reminder that RVers must be perceived as good neighbors, or there will be more pressure to institute state, county and local ordinances to prohibit parking on private business property.

No-Park Walmarts

Of the 4,000 or so stores nationwide, more than 1,000 prohibit overnight RV parking for one reason or another. Oftentimes local ordinances prohibit overnight RV parking. In some cases, Walmart is only a tenant and does not own the property their store is located on nor do they own the parking lot. In these cases, landlords may prohibit overnight RV parking.

Permission to park is granted by individual store managers. Some managers may not allow overnight RV parking because of previous bad experiences while others may choose to allow it. It is possible to speak with different managers at the same store on the same day and receive different answers regarding overnight RV parking. That’s why it is important to ask management for permission to park. Don’t just assume it is allowed because there are other RVs in the parking lot.

Our Walmart Locator (affiliate link) book identifies stores where overnight RV parking is not allowed. You can view a sample of the book’s interior by using Amazon’s “Look Inside” feature.

Walmart Locations

The interactive map below displays the location of Walmart stores across the United States. It also identifies each store’s overnight RV parking status. Locations in red indicate stores that have been reported as not allowing overnight parking. If you know of a location that does not allow overnight RV parking, please contact us.

The information presented here is not official. Just because a location is marked with a green dot does not necessarily mean overnight parking is allowed. Likewise, if a location is in red, it does not necessarily mean overnight parking is prohibited. It is best to contact and receive approval from store management before parking overnight.

    • It is a continuous source of frustration having to explain what this website is and isn’t. If people would only pay attention, read, think, then most of their questions would be answered. Few do.

  1. The above map added the locations to Google maps but i find no obvious way of turning them off when i don’t need them. Because I have a ton of other pins, i don’t want to take screenshots on android with walmart locations obscuring the rest

    • You should be able to view the map’s legend and uncheck the boxes for the various regions to turn on and off the icons.

      • I cannot find any way to get the pins hidden. There is no map legend that appears in Google Maps and using Google Maps to navigate and see an overview of the route is now *unusable* due to all of the Walmart Locator pins crowding the map screen. Need a way to info whatever data your Locator added to Google Maps to make the pins show every time a route is searched.

        • These are the steps I take to view the Map Legend and change the map display:

          • Select any Walmart location
          • Select the “More info” button near the bottom of the screen
          • Select the View Map Legend link
          • Uncheck each region that you want to hide from the map
          • Optionally, you can completely close the map by selecting the Close link

  2. Thank you so much for providing information to help travelers locate Walmart stores that are hospitable to RV travelers. We have stayed at Walmarts, but always go inside and ask the manager if it is ok with them. Tonight we pulled into a Walmart in New Hampshire that had posted signs, No Overnight Parking, Police Patrolled. We went inside and spoke with the manager, she was very kind and accommodating for us to stay the night. We were exhausted, it was late, many campsites closed for the year, and we so appreciated the hospitality shown to us by Walmart. She said the problem is with people who come and stay more than one night, put up tents, have parties, and act as though they are at a campground.
I can not stress enough our appreciation for the hospitality that Walmart extends to travelers. And we in turn show our respect by not dropping our levelers, not putting out the awning, setting up camp chairs, etc., but by parking at end of lot and staying quiet. We have also shopped at every Walmart and thankful for then being everywhere as we encounter so many needs in our travels, including recently a vehicle battery.

  3. I’d like to order some Lysol spray , but I keep getting the same message. Your workers are saving them for their families or they ONLY put (6) can on the shelf at as time. How is that sufficient for your clients. The service is horrible in your stores in Jacksonville, Florida. This is why Publix will NEVER go out of business!

    • The “workers” aren’t allowed to “save stuff for thier families” ! Odds are, the 6 cans you see are the only 6 cans the store received. If you go from selling two a week, then sell 20 a week, it takes the system time to kick up that replenishment. Maybe you should study supply and demand!!!!

    • The red dots represent locations that have been reported as not allowing overnight parking. The green dots do not necessarily mean overnight parking is allowed – you must still contact the store’s management and seek approval. This is an important part of the process that many RVers simply ignore. Also, even though a location is marked with a red dot, it doesn’t necessarily mean you cannot park overnight. It all depends on the store’s management.

  4. I have tired everywhere to find the telephone number for the Walmart Super Store in Kannapolis, NC> Why can’t you list the phone numbers of the stores in certain cities on here. I am very frustrated that I can’t find the number as I need to order my groceries from there. I am 81, handicapped and have no way to get to the store but enjoy ordering from Walmart. This is important to me and please list the phone number SOMEWHERE on here. I order every month from Walmart and enjoy this delivery service.
